Traditional film x-ray has gone high-tech in recent years. Many x-rays are now captured in electronic digital format instead of on film, just like in photography. The images are available sooner for the radiologist to interpret off of special high definition monitors, and then available to the referring physician on a secure web site.

X-rays are still used to look at the chest for pneumonia, find a fractured bone, or using fluoroscopy to get a moving x-ray like a swallow test. Some of the new equipment can even perform some exams on a patient confined to a wheelchair.

Students in the Radiological Technologist program at Bakersfield College receive a part of their education while spending time at Kern Radiology in our diagnostic x-ray department. Many of our technologists are graduates of the Bakersfield College X-ray program.
